Nayab Ikram (Finland)

Installasjonen viser Nayab Ikrams pågående prosjekt «In Between», hvor hun fokuserer på opplevelsen av å være imellom – imellom kulturer, religioner og identiteter. Denne tematikken utforskes blant annet gjennom fotografi og video hvor kunstneren selv opptrer. Kunstneren arbeider spesielt med hårets kulturhistorie og er opptatt av hvilken betydning hårpryden har i ulike kulturer og for forståelsen av oss selv. Kunstneren er selv ung muslimsk kvinne og andregenerasjons innvandrer, født og oppvokst på Åland i en pakistansk familie.

Nayab Ikram (25) har bachelorgrad i medieproduksjon fra Noiva University of Applied Sciences, i Jakobstad, Finland.

The installation shows Nayab Ikram’s ongoing body of work “In Between”, where she is focusing on the feeling of ‘inbetweenship’. Ikram uses photography and video performance to explore the feeling. The artist works with the cultural history of hair, and the importance of hair in distinct cultures and in the understanding of ourselves. Ikram base her work on her personal feeling of in betweenness, as a second-generation immigrant and a young Muslim woman, born and raised on the Åland Islands in a Pakistani family.

Nayab Ikram (25) have a bachelor of culture and arts in media production from Noiva University of Applied Sciences, in Jakobstad, Finland.
